Owls Remain Unbeaten in MASCAC, Top Lancers 3-0

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Westfield State women's volleyball team remained perfect in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) after defeating Worcester State in straight sets on Tuesday night.

The Owls now move to 5-0 in the conference and 10-11 overall, while the Lancers drop to 2-3 in the MASCAC.

Westfield was lead by sophomore Ashley Crowley (Bilerica, Mass.) who had a team-high 14 kills. Crowley had a .400 kill percentage, only committing two errors on the evening, and chipped in 5 digs to boot.

Senior Lizzie Taylor (Medfield, Mass.) added 17 digs in the victory, and senior captain Ally Rega (Chelmsford, Mass.) helped the Owls with 27 assists and 10 digs of her own.

The Owls took the first and third sets in pretty convincing fashion, with the Lancers only threatening during the second frame. During that set, the two teams were knotted at 14 until a Worcester service error and kills by Crowley and Natasha Belardo (Holyoke/Springfield, Mass.) put the visiting Owls ahead and they would not look back, eventually winning the set 25-22.

Westfield State next travels to Western New England University for a tri match with the Golden Bears and Colby Sawyer on Saturday.
