CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Westfield State women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 to Elms College in non-conference play on Wednesday night at Picknelly Arena.

Senior Brianna Starkey (Rockland, Mass.) finished with a team-high 13 kills, while junior Ally Rega (Chelmsford, Mass.) added 28 assists and hit .400 on the night. Sophomores Ashley Crowley (Billerica, Mass.) and Shawna Crowley (Billerica, Mass.) both contributed 9 kills a piece in the setback.

Elms took the first set decisively at 25-19, but the Owls would storm back and grab the second set, 25-21 after it was knotted up at 21 late to even the match.

In the third frame, Westfield held a 17-9 lead before four Owl attack errors and two Blazer aces would bring Elms to within two at 17-15. From there, Elms would take over and go on a 10-4 run to close out the set and move ahead 2 sets to Westfield's one.

The fourth set was a close one, as the two teams went down to the wire, 22-22, until the Blazers would take three of the final four points to secure the 3-1 victory.

With the loss, the Owls drop to 6-6 on the season. Next, Westfield State travels to Framingham for a big MASCAC matchup, looking to keep ahold of first place.
