Owls Bump Buccaneers, 3-0

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Owls volleyball team swept three sets (25-15, 25-15, 25-11) from Mass. Maritime for a conference win in the Woodward Center on Saturday, Oct. 13. The match was designated as a 'Dig Pink' game to raise breast cancer awareness.

Westfield's MASCAC record improves to 4-1 (5-17 overall) with two conference games remaining. The Buccaneers fall to 1-15 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Brianna Starkey (Rockland/ Rockland) led the Owls with 15 kills and a very efficient .560 hitting percentage. Starkey also picked up five of the nine Owl service aces on the afternoon, including the game winner in the third set.

Westfield setter, Ally Rega (Chelmsford/ Chelmsford) handed out 28 assists and picked up eight digs in the win. Ainsley MacLeod (Hampden/ Home School/ Minnechaug) added nine kills off the bench.

Mass. Maritime libero, Christina Ruggeri (Bourne, Mass./ Bourne), lifted a game-high 17 digs including a milestone 1,000 career dig in the third set.

Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass./ Weymouth) paced the visiting Buccaneer offense with nine kills.

Both teams hit the road for conference matches on Wednesday, Oct. 17, the Owls head to Salem State and the Buccaneers face Framingham State.
