WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State junior Amy O'Sullivan (Greenfield, Mass.) lowered her school-record time in the 10,000 meters, finishing in 37:09.36 at the NEICAAA New England All-Divisions Track and Field Championship at Veterans Stadium in New Britain, Conn. on Friday evening.
O'Sullivan finished fifth overall and second among Division III runners.
O'Sullivan lowered her school-record time by 37 seconds off of her mark (37.46.15) set in the first outdoor meet of the 2021 season, which had her briefly leading the nation in the event. Her time today moves her into 16th on the NCAA Division III performance list. The top 18 individuals qualify for the NCAA Division III championship meet. Individuals can still qualify through this Thursday at last-chance meets.
O'Sullivan ran in tandem with Tufts University's Meghan Davis for about the first 6,000 meters, with O'Sullivan running about a stride behind Davis, who ended up finishing third in 36:50.64.
New Hampshire senior Margaret Champagne won the event in 36:20.94.
O'Sullivan was the only Owls' athlete to compete at the event. Her placing was good for four points, which had the Owls in 15th place as a team with another day to go in the championships.
If O'Sullivan qualifies, she would compete at the NCAA Division III championships at the Irwin Belk Track at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, May 27-29.
