Westfield State University's men's and women's track and field teams, and athletes Amy O'Sullivan (Greenfield, Mass./Greenfield HS) and William Canty (S. Grafton, Mass./Grafton HS), were recently recognized with 2020 All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
To qualify, an individual athlete must have a 3.30 grade point average and must have finished the indoor season among the top 50 individuals in their event as listed on the descending order lists on TFRRS national performance lists.
A sophomore, O'Sullivan finished the season 33rd on the women's 5,000-meter list while carrying an overall GPA of 3.96 in mathematics.
Canty earned All-America honors as a national qualifier in the men's heptathlon. Cantry ranked ninth in the nation entering the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship meet, which was ultimately canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A senior, Canty carries a 3.36 GPA in Movement Science.
Both the Westfield State men's and women's teams earned the All-Academic Team designation from the USTFCCCA. To qualify teams must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.1 or higher. The Owls were one of 150 men's teams honored with a 3.16 GPA, and one of 209 women's programs recognized, sporting a 3.49 GPA. The Westfield State women captured the MASCAC Indoor Title in 2020.
