Gilderdale, O’Sullivan Earn MASCAC Honors

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Thanks to their great performances at last week's Mary Grinaker Invite, Westfield State senior Lauren Gilderdale (Great Barrington, Mass.) and sophomore Amy O'Sullivan (Greenfield, Mass.) earned the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly awards as sponsored by GEICO.

Gilderdale earned Field Athlete of the Week by finishing third in both the weight throw and shot put at the Mary Grinaker Invite hosted by Smith College. Gilderdale had a top distance of 16.70m (54' 9.5") in the weight throw and posted a mark of 12.67m 41' 7" in the shot put. As of now, Gilderdale is currently seventh in the nation in the weight throw.

O'Sullivan's victory in the women's 5,000 meters at the Grinaker earned her the MASCAC Athlete of the Week. O'Sullivan finished with a time of 17:43.35 to win the event. O'Sullivan currently has the fifth best time in the nation in the 5,000-meter event.

Both the Owls' men's and women's track and field teams are back in action this Saturday in the Massasoit Classic hosted by Springfield College.
