Owls' Track and Field Earns High Marks

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University's track and field teams earned US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Honors as announced this week by the organization.

A total of 297 teams, including, 184 women's teams and 113 men's programs were recognized at the NCAA Division III level for maintain a team grade point average of 3.0 or above.

Westfield's men carried a mark of 3.24 while the women posted a 3.48 GPA under head coach Sean O'Brien.

Westfield's Kerri Long (Weymouth, Mass.) and Lexi Popp (Westford, Mass.) both earn All-Academic individual honors as well.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and either competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship, or finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.

Popp earned All-America honors both indoors in the 400 meters and outdoors in the 400 hurdles.  Long finished the year ranked in the top 50 in the nation in the 400 hurdles while maintaining a high GPA.
