WESTFIELD, Mass.   Westfield State senior hurdler Lexi Popp (Westford Academy/Westford, Mass.) and junior decathlete William Canty (Grafton HS/South Grafon, Mass.) have qualified for the 2019 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championship meet, which will be contested this weekend at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Popp enters the women's 400 hurdles as the 10th seed, with a qualifying time of 1:01.75 which she ran at the MIT Last Chance qualifier meet on Thursday.

Popp is in her second straight year of qualifying for the 400 hurdles.  At last year's championship meet in La Crosse, Wisc., she finished 18th.  Popp also qualified for the NCAA Indoor meet earlier this year in the 400 meters, where she earned All-America honors with a seventh-place finish in the finals after winning her qualifying heat.

Popp will run in the 400 hurdle prelims on Thursday at 4:25 p.m.

Canty heads for the men's decathlon as the fourth seed.  He recently won the New England All-Divisions Decathlon title with a school record score of 6,765 points.   Canty qualifies for the national championship meet for the first time.

The decathlon events begin Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with the 100 meters and end with the 1,500 meters on Friday at 4:30 p.m., with five events contested each day.

The top eight finishers in each event are conveyed All-America honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
