Popp Sets Two Indoor Records at BU Meet

Westfield State senior sprinter Lexi Popp lowered her school-record time in the indoor 400 meters, running a 56.70 in the event at the Dave Hemery Invitational meet at Boston University on Friday.

Popp's time was 27/100ths of a second faster than her previous mark of 56.97 set last season.

Popp's fast time also is the third-fastest in NCAA Division III this season, and brings her closer to qualifying for the NCAA Division III National Championship meet in March.

She finished 26th in the event which had 172 competitors.  Popp was second among NCAA Division III competitors.

Popp also ran 25.76 in the 200 meters to set another school record, breaking the mark of 25.78 set by Targie Gervais in 2011.

Westfield State track and field will next compete at the MASCAC Championship meet on Saturday, February 16 at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire.
