Women's Track Strong at Coast Guard Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State University's women's track team won the team title and had a number of strong performances at the early-season US Coast Guard Academy Invitational meet in New London, Conn. on Saturday, April 7.

Jessie Cardin won the 5000 meters in a NEICAAA qualifying time of 17:28.48, while Lexi Popp was a winner in the 400 meters with at time of 58.68 seconds.

Sabrina Pray claimed the 100 hurdles title in a time of 15.29.

Popp also turned in a solid performance in the 200, finishing third in 26:08.

Victoria Sparages tossed the javelin 128'-09" in finishing second to Aly Saperstien from Division I UConn by just one inch. Sparages throw was good for 12th on the current NCAA D3 qualifying list.

Lauren Guilderdale placed third in both the shot (11.50m 37'-08.75) and the hammer (47.74m, 156'-07), with the hammer throw qualifying her for the NEICAAA championships and placing her 21st on the NCAA qualifying list.

Westfield State will be home to host the Jerry Gravel Invitation meet at the Gravel Track and Alumni Field Complex next Saturday, in the meet named for the retired Owls Hall of Fame track and field coach.
