Owls Post Strong Finishes at NCAA Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University's seniors Ashley Craig (Groton, Mass. / Westford Academy) and Sabrina Pray (Mansfield, Mass.) placed 10th in the pole vault and 60 meter hurdles consecutively, while senior Jessie Cardin (Sutton, Mass.) finished 11th in the 5,000 meter run at the 2018 NCAA Division III women's indoor track and field championships on March 9-10 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.

Craig entered the meet as the 14th seed and cleared 3.70 meters (12-01.50) to finish 10th in the nation in the pole vault. She has set and improved the Westfield State University record on several occasions in her career. This was her first appearance at the NCAA Championships.

Pray entered the meet as the 15th seed in the 60 meter hurdles and placed 10th in the nation in a time of 8.97 seconds. Pray earned All-America honors in the 100 meter high hurdles at the 2017 NCAA outdoor championships, where she finished seventh in the nation.

Cardin entered the meet as the 15th seed after running to a first-place finish in the 5,000 meter run at the Tufts Final Qualifying meet last Saturday. She ended the indoor season ranked 11th in the nation after running the 5,000 meter run in a time 17:14.41. Cardin was an All-American in cross country this fall, where she finished 36th at the NCAA Championship race. Cardin qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field championships in the spring of 2016 in the 3000 meter steeplechase, where she placed ninth.

The top eight finishers in the event earn All-American status.
