Craig, Cardin Earn MASCAC Weekly Honors

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University's senior Ashley Craig (Westford Academy/ Groton, Mass.) and senior Jessie Cardin (Sutton, Mass.) have been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women's track & field athletes of the week with Craig earning the field athlete of the week and Cardin being named the track athlete of the week.

Craig broke the MASCAC and Alliance record in the pole vault with a top clearing of 3.86 meters (12' 8") and also ran a leg of the Owls school-record setting 4x100 relay (48.28) to lead the Owls to the MASCAC and New England Alliance titles at the MASCAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship. Currently fifth nationally in the pole vault.

Cardin was a three-time winner in the 1,500 meter run (4:50.13), 3,000 steeplechase (10:46.12) and 5,000 meter run (17:59.33) to help the Owls to the MASCAC and New England Alliance titles at the MASCAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship. Her steeplechase time was a new MASCAC and Alliance record. Currently seventh nationally in the steeplechase.

Westfield State student-athletes won 11 events as the Owls women's track and field team won the 2018 MASCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship, contested at Bridgewater State University on Saturday.

Westfield finished with 271 points, easily outdistancing runner up Worcester State, which was second with 168 points.

The Owls will travel to MIT on May 3rd for the New England Division III Championships.
