Cardin, Craig, Pray Qualify for NCAA Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University's senior Jessie Cardin (Sutton, Mass.), senior Ashley Craig (Groton, Mass. / Westford Academy) and senior Sabrina Pray (Mansfield, Mass.) will compete in the 2018 NCAA Division III women's indoor track and field championships on March 9-10 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama, with Birmingham Southern College and the Birmingham CrossPlex serving as hosts.

Cardin will compete in the 5,000 meter run, where she ranks 15th in the nation after running to a first-place finish in the 5,000 meter run in a time of 17:16.03 at the Tufts Final Qualifying meet in Medford, Mass. Saturday. Because the NCAA Championship track is held on a banked track instead of a flat track, her qualifying time was converted to 17:08.16. Cardin was an All-American in cross country this fall, where she finished 36th at the NCAA Championship race. She qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field championships in the spring of 2016 in the 3000 meter steeplechase, where she placed ninth.

Craig will compete in the pole vault, where she ranks 14th in the nation after clearing 3.71 meters (12-02.00) to win the pole vault on Saturday. Craig has set and improved the Westfield State University record in the pole vault on several occasions in her career. Craig will be making her first appearance at the NCAA Championships.

Pray will compete in the 60-meter hurdles, where she ranks 15th in the nation after placing third in the 60 meter hurdles in a school-record time of 8.92 seconds in the final, lowering her previous school record by 2/100ths of a second. Pray earned All-America honors in the 100 meter high hurdles at the 2017 NCAA outdoor championships, where she finished seventh in the nation.

For each women's individual event contested, the top 17 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition.

The top eight finishers in each event earn All-America honors from the US Track and Field Collegiate Coaches Association.
