Women's Track Finishes 12th at NEICAAA Championships

HANOVER, New Hampshire - Westfield State University's senior Jessie Cardin (Sutton, Mass.), senior Ashley Craig (Groton, Mass. / Westford Academy), senior Sabrina Pray (Mansfield, Mass.), and junior Lexi Popp (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) had top finishes in their respective events to lead the women's outdoor track and field team to a 12th place finish at the 2018 NEICAAA Track and Field Championships hosted by Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire on Friday and Saturday.

Cardin ran to a second place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:33.80, just seconds behind the top finisher.

Craig placed second in the pole vault and set a school record with a height of 3.9m (12-09.50).

Pray finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.43 seconds, and set a school record in the 100m hurdles preliminaries, finishing fifth in 14.29 seconds.

Popp placed eighth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 57.24 seconds. She broke the school record in the 400m dash preliminaries, placing fourth in a time of 55.84 seconds.

Other strong performances for the Owls includes junior Kerri Long (Weymouth, Mass.) who placed eighth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.45), sophomore Lauren Gilderdale (Great Barrington, Mass. / Housatonic Valley Regional) who finished 17th in the shot put (11.62m; 38-01.50), sophomore Andrea Noland (Kingston, Mass. / Silver Lake) who placed 19th in the 10,000-meter run (39:23.83), and sophomore Victoria Sparages (Saugus, Mass.) who placed 20th in the javelin (34.53m; 113-03).

The Owls finished 12th (of 39) as a team, earning 23 points. The Northeastern women won the meet at a team after totaling 121 points. Dartmouth College followed in second with 99.62 total points and UMass Amherst finished third with 86.5 points.
