Cardin, Craig Lead Owls at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University's senior Jessie Cardin (Sutton, Mass.) and senior Ashley Craig (Groton, Mass. / Westford Academy) both won their respective events to lead the women's outdoor track and field team to a fifth place finish at the Springfield College Invitational on Saturday.

Cardin won the 1500-meter run (4:49.17) and finished third (of 26) in the 800-meter run (2:24.03) while Craig won the pole vault with a height of 3.81 meters (12-06.00), breaking her previous school record set in 2016.

Senior Sabrina Pray (Mansfield, Mass.) placed second (of 8) in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.65 and finished eighth (of 29) in the 200-meter dash in a time of 27.48. Junior Brianna Deloury (Andover, Mass.) tied for second in the high jump with a height of 1.62-meters.

Other top competitors for the Owls' includes sophomore Victoria Sparages (Saugus, Mass.) who placed third in the javelin (34.17m), junior Kerri Long (Weymouth, Mass.) who placed fifth in the long jump (5.12m), sophomore Mikayla Ferrini (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Deloury who finished fifth and sixth respectively in the triple jump.

The Owls 4x100- meter relay team of Alexa Popp (Westford, Mass.), Long, Craig, and Pray placed second in a time of 49.53 seconds.

The Owls' finished fifth of nine competing teams with a total of 77.16 points. American International College placed first with a team total of 183.83 points.

Westfield State will travel to Eastern Connecticut State University on April 28th for the MASCAC Alliance/Championships.
