WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University's senior Ashley Craig (Westford Academy/ Groton, Mass.) and sophomore Jessie Cardin (Sutton, Mass.) have been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women's track & field athletes of the week.
Both athletes helped lead Westfield State to a first place finish at the Jerry Gravel Classic Track and Field meet.
Craig set a school record in the pole vault with a top clearing of 3.76m (12' 4") on her way to winning the event at the Jerry Gravel Classic. She also ran a leg of the Owls winning 4 x100 relay (48.99), and placed fourth in the 100 meters (13.28). Craig is currently ranked eighth nationally in the pole vault.
Cardin finished first in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:53.77, while helping the Owls to their fourth straight Jerry Gravel Classic meet title. She is currently is seventh in Division III in the event.
Cardin and Palma will lead the Owls into the Springfield College Classic on Saturday, April 21st.
