Owls Swim to Second Place Finish at Bridgewater Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass.  -  Westfield State junior Alexa Richter won the 50 freestyle to lead the efforts of the Owls women's swimming and diving team at the Bridgewater State Invitational on Saturday.

Westfield took second place in the team scoring, as host Bridgewater (698 pts.) won the meet, followed by the Owls (321) and Rhode Island College (236).   Seven teams competed on the women's side of the meet.

Richter touched the wall first in a time of 26.28 in the 50 free, where teammate Jackie Roccabruna placed fourth with a time of 27.43.

Richter added second place finishes in the 100 backstroke and the 50 backstroke.

Westfield's Ally Linkenhoker picked up second-place marks in the 400 IM (5:21.34) and the 200 breaststroke (2:46.25).

The Owls Kara Banagan placed second in the 3-meter diving with a scored of 199.25 and added a third-place result in the 1-meter diving.

Westfield's unit took second in the 400 medley relay.

The meet wraps up the fall semester portion of the schedule for Westfield.  The Owls will next compete on Friday, Jan. 19 when they host Elms College for a dual meet.
