Pioneers Swim Past Owls

WESTFIELD, Mass.  -  Smith College swimming and diving swept the first six events of the meet as the Pioneers swam past Westfield State, 190-87 in a dual meet at the Ely Pool on Saturday afternoon.

Westfield got it's first win of the day as Jackie Roccabruna came home first in the 50 freestyle in 27.59 second, touching out Smith's Simram Jayasinghe by 1/100th of a second.

Alexa Richter topped the 100 freestyle in 58.29, and Ally Linkenhoker topped the 400 IM in 5:28.65 as the other event winners for the Owls.

In the diving events, Kara Banagan placed second in the 1-meter diving with amark of 217.88 and the 3-meter diving 209.85.   Smith's Katherine Welsh won both boards, with scores of 287.78 on the 1-meter and 251.18 on the 3 meter boards.

Abby McIlraith was dual winner for the Pioneers, topping the 50 and the 100 breaststroke.

The Owls will next be in action on December 2 at the Bridgewater Invitational.
