Simmons Slips Past Swimming in Season Opener, 135-123

WESTFIELD, Mass. -  Sophomore Ally Linkenhoker (Monson, Mass./Belchertown) won three events for Westfield State, but the Owls fell to Simmons College, 135-123 in the season opening swimming and diving meet for both teams.

Linkenhoker topped the 100-yard butterfly, the 500 freestyle and the 100-yard individual medley events to tally 27 points for Westfield

Westfield's Karoline Warzybok (Chicopee, Mass.) topped the 50 yard breaststroke, and Alexa Richter (Westfield, Mass.)  won both the 1000 and 50 freestyle events.

Warzybok, Linenhoker, Liv Harkins (Woburn, Mass.) and Jackie Roccabruna (Pittsfield, Mass.) also partnered in winning the 200-yard medley to open the meet.

Kara Banagan (Niskayuna, N.Y.) topped both the 1 and 3 meter diving events to add 18 points to the Owls tally.

Simmons (1-0) held the Owls off in the 16th and final event, as the Sharks topped the 200 yard freestyle relay to earn 11 points, and added two more for a third-place finish for their B relay team.

The Owls (0-1) will swim at Western New England next Saturday, October 28 with a 1:00 p.m. start.
