Owls Roll Past West Conn on Senior Day, 159-61

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior Wiktoria Kaczor (Belchertown, Mass.) won three events as the Owls defeated Western Connecticut State University 159-61 in a Little East Conference meet on senior day from Ely Pool in Westfield, Mass.

Prior to the start of the meet, Westfield State honored its five senior swimmers: Madison Amaral (Fall River, Mass.), Hannah Burns (Billerica, Mass.), Kat Ferri (Springfield, Mass.), Wiktoria Kaczor (Belchertown, Mass.), and Nicole Pechulis (Longmeadow, Mass.).

Kaczor secured three event wins in the 50-yard breaststroke (32.81), 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.50), and the 100-yard IM (1:07.19).

Sophomore Alexa Richter (Westfield, Mass.) was victorious in the 50-yard backstroke (30.22) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.52).

Ferri picked up first-place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle (58.37) and 50-yard butterfly (29.10).

Pechulis claimed the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle at a time of 26.94.

Owls divers' Kara Banagan (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and Paige Brandt (Woodbury, Conn.) each competed in the 1M diving event with Banagan tallying a score of 175.35 and Brandt with 151.00. Banagan also participated in the 3M dive, compiling a score of 226.45 as she scored a total of 18 points in the two events.

The Owls 400-yard medley relay team outswam the Wolves by 31 seconds, with Richter, Kaczor, Ferri, and Pechulis recording a combined time of 4:19.59.

Westfield State concluded the regular season after today's victory and will next compete in the LEC Championships from Wellesley, Mass. beginning on Friday, February 17.
