Kaczor Wins Three Times as Owls Place Second at Bridgewater Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Led by a trifecta of wins from Wiktoria Kaczor (Belchertown, Mass.), Westfield State swimming and diving turned in a strong performance at the Bridgewater State Invitational, as the Owls finished second as a team in the eight-team women's side of the meet.

Kaczor took home first-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.69, the 200 breast in  2:38.11, Warzybok second, and finally the 50 breast stroke with a time of 33.42 seconds. Kaczor was much the best in all three events, winning the 100 by nearly seven seconds.   Karoline Warzybok (Chicopee, Mass .) took second in all three of the breaststroke races to help maximize the Owls points earned.

Overall, Westfield won seven individual events and the 200 medley relay.

"I'm very proud of how the entire team stepped up today," said Owls head coach Tom Avila.  "This was hands-down our best all-around performance of the season, and I think we sent a message that we're going to be a very scary team at LECs this year."

Senior captain Kat Ferri(Springfield, Mass./Central) won the 200 IM with a lifetime best time of 2:26.42, and added a second in the 100 fly and a third place finish in the 50 butterfly.

Allyson Linkenhoker (Monson, Mass./Belchertown) won the 400 IM with a time of 5:12.61 and placed second in the 200 backstroke in 2:23.84.

Alexa Richter (Westfield, Mass.) touched the wall first in both the 50 freestyle (26.27) and the 100 freestyle (57.48).

Westfield opened the meet with a team win in the 200 medley relay, as Olivia Harkins (Woburn, Mass.), Kaczor, Ferri, and Richter combined to swim 1:59.23.

Bridgewater defended its home turf to win the meet with a team score of 758.5, with Westfield second at 516.5. Regis was third with 304 followed by Western New England at 289.5

Westfield was swimming its final meet of the first semester.  The Owls will return to competition on Saturday, January 14, hosting Elms College in a dual meet at the Ely Pool.
