Richter Wins Second LEC Title,Tops 1000 Yard Freestyle

WESTFIELD, Mass. –      Westfield State first-year student Alexa Richter (Westfield, Mass.) added her second individual title of the meet, as she won the 1000 yard freestyle on Monday night at the 2022 Little East Conference Championships at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, Mass.

Richter swam the 1000 in 11:09.41, outdistancing her closest competitor by more than 28 seconds.

Richter's win topped a list of solid performances from Westfield State on Monday.  The Owls picked up three second-place individual finishes, as Nicole Pechulis (Longmeadow, Mass.) took second in 200 free in 2:05.58, Kara Banagan (Niskayuna, N.Y.) placed second in the 1-meter diving, scoring 337.70 in the final, and Wiktoria Kaczor (Belchertown, Mass.)  finished second in the 100 breast in 1:09.70.

Kat Ferri (Springfield, Mass./Central) advanced to the final before placing eighth in the 400 IM.

The Owls took a team second-place finish in the 200 medley relay as the quartet of Richter, Kaczor, Ferri and Pechulis completed the relay in 1:56.38.  Westfield placed sixth in the 800 free relay.

Westfield remained in fourth place in the team scoring for the second straight day.  Westfield has 381 points, and sits behind Keene State (595), Bridgewater (513)  and Eastern Connecticut (508) in the nine-team meet.
