Owls Fall to Smith 166-101

Westfield, Mass. – The Westfield State women's swim team fell to Smith College by a score of 166-101 on a Friday night at the Ely Pool in Westfield, Mass. Juniors' Kat Ferri (Springfield, Mass.) and Wiktoria Kaczor (Belchertown, Mass.) along with first-year Alexa Richter (Westfield, Mass.) each won an individual event for the Owls.

Richter kicked off the beginning of the individual events in the 1000-yard freestyle where she would finish comfortably in first place with a time of 11:33.63. She narrowly missed first place in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing just 1.37 seconds behind Smith swimmer Carolina Kolmodin, who won the event. Richter also placed second in the 500-yard freestyle.

Ferri won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:24.02 and finished second in the 200-yard butterfly.

Kaczor won the second to last event of the night in the 200-yard IM, posting a time of 2:28.70. She also finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke, 50-yard breaststroke, and 50-yard freestyle.

Westfield State will return to action on the road on Saturday, December 4th as the Owls will compete in the Bridgewater Invitational at noon.
