Westfield, Mass. – The Westfield State swim team picked up a victory over Western New England by a score of 140-108 on a Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Mass. Owls first-year swimmer Alexa Richter (Westfield, Mass.) won the 1000-yard freestyle (11:42.42), 50-yard freestyle, and the 100-yard backstroke to pace the team to victory. Her 11:42.42 time for the 1000-yard freestyle was a second shy of the meet record.
Junior Kat Ferri (Springfield, Mass.) won two individual events, 50-yard butterfly (30.10) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.99) while also swimming third in the team-winning 200-yard medley relay.
Junior Nicole Pechulis (Longmeadow, Mass.) won the 100-yard freestyle (1.01.61) and also anchored the 200-yard medley relay team.
Aly Locke (Brookfield, Mass.), Wiktoria Kaczor (Belchertown, Mass.), and Karoline Warzybok (Chicopee, Mass.) each won an event in a balanced attack for the Owls overall.
Westfield State's next opponent will be against Mount Holyoke on Saturday at 1:00 P.M.
