Westfield Swims Past Anchorwomen, 107-78

Westfield State used a balanced team effort, highlighted by a pair of wins from Kait Kelly, as the Owls outswam the the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen in a meet contested at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. on Sunday.

Kelly topped the 50 backstroke and the 200 freestyle.

Westfield also got event wins from Jenna Albrecht in the 200 butterfly, Lauren Harkins in the 100 backstroke, and Nicole Pechulis in the 100 freestyle.  Pechulis recently rejoined the team after spending the first semester on active military service.

Westfield also swept the two relay events, opening the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay with the quartet of Pechulis, Emily Smith, Carly Thibodeau and Kelly touching the wall first.   The Owls also claimed teh 400 freestyle relay as Taylor Pierce partnered with Albrecht, Thibodeau and Kelsey Johnstone.

The Owls wrap up their dual meet season with four straight wins to post a 5-5 record. Its the 26th straight year that Westfield has posted a .500 or better record in dual meets, all under the direction of coach Dave Laing.

Westfield will compete in the Little East Conference Championships next Saturday at UMass-Dartmouth.
