Seniors Monique Groux (Agawam, Mass.) and Shannon Fitzsimmons (Andover, Mass.) paced Westfield State University swimming and diving to a third place finish at the 2019 Little East Conference Championship meet at UMass Dartmouth on Saturday.
Groux won the 3 meter diving event, while Fitzsimmons set a school record in finishing second in the 200 butterfly.
Fitzsimmons swam 2:19.62 in the 200 fly, breaking the 25-year old record of 2:19.8 set by Ellicia Santangelo Romo in 1994. Fitzsimmons added a fourth place finish in the 100 fly as well.
Groux totaled 229.95 in the 3-meter diving. She also took second-place in the 1-meter diving with a score of 236.40.
Westfield State totaled 234 points. Keene State won the meet with a team total of 535, UMass Dartmouth was second with 281.5
The Owls will be idle next weekend, before competing at the NEISDA Championships at M.I.T. on February 21-24.
