Westfield Swimmers Earn Strong Finishes at UMD

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Three Westfield State swimmers won their events at the Louise Goodrum Invitational meet at UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday.

Freshman Kait Kelly (Minnechaug HS/Hampden, Mass.) won both the 50 yard backstroke in a time of 29.61 seconds, and the 100 backstroke 1:04.68. Kelly also took second place finishes in the 100 butterfly 1:04.93 and the 100 freestyle 56.80

Senior Tia Pariseau (St. Peter Marian/Holden, Mass.) won the 100 breast stroke in a time of 1:12.52 and also claimed second place in the 100 IM.

Junior Shannon Fitzsimmons (Andover, Mass.) was a winner in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:36.22, and took a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle, and a fourth in the 100 butterfly

The Owls also claimed second place team finishes in the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay events.

No team scores were recorded at the meet.

Westfield State will make its home debut on Wednesday night at the Ely Pool, hosting local rival Western New England in a dual meet with a 6:30 p.m. start.
