Swimming Tops West Conn 135-101 on Senior Day

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State swimmers won the first 10 events, helping the Owls celebrate a successful senior day with a 135-101 victory over Western Connecticut State at the Ely Pool on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls improve to 7-1 on the season in dual meets, and will have a chance to post the second-best record in school history if Westfield can defeat Rhode Island College tomorrow in Smithfield, R.I. Westfield posted a 9-1 dual meet record in the 2006-07 season.

Westfield State coach Dave Laing recognized his graduating seniors before the meet, all four-year members of the Owls team: Danielle MacDonald ( Durfee/Fall River, Mass.) , Tia Pariseau (St. Peter Marian/Holden, Mass.) and Summer Walker (Tantasqua/Ware, Mass.).

In the pool, Pariseau picked up a pair of wins, in the 100 freestyle and the 50 breaststroke. MacDonald was a member of the Owls winning 200-yard medley relay unit.

With the victory secured after the first 10 events, the Owls were able to swim exhibition for the remainder of the meet.

The Owls complete the dual-meet portion of their schedule on Sunday, traveling to face Rhode Island College in a meet that will be contested at Bryant University.
