Owls Fly Past Blue Jays, 186-78
WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University's swimming and diving team won 15 of 16 events as the Owls swam to a 186-78 victory over the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Conn. on Friday night.

Westfield State improves to 6-1 on the season while the University of Saint Joseph is now 2-2 overall.

Sophomore Kelsey Johnstone (Southwick, Mass. / Westfield) won three events to lead the Owls, including the 50-yard freestyle (26.66), the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.52), and the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.56).

Junior Shannon Fitzsimmons (Andover, Mass.), freshman Kait Kelly (Hampden / Minnechaug Regional High School) and senior Tia Pariseau (Holden / St. Peter Marian) each won two events in the win. Fitzsimmons placed first in 200-yard freestyle (2:08.90) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:37.61), Kelly placed first in 50-yard backstroke (29.39) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.26) while Pariseau won the 50-yard breaststroke (32.56) and the 100-yard freestyle (58.79).

The Owls' medley relay team of Kelly, Johnstone, junior Alex Frazier (Dracut, Mass.), and sophomore Sam Thibault (Chicopee / Chicopee Comprehensive) placed first in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:00.57.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Westfield State's medley relay team of Pariseau, Thibault, Fitzsimmons and Kelly won in a time of 1:49.26.

Other winners for the Owls includes sophomore Emma Colcord (Andover / Landmark High School) in the 1,000-yard freestyle, junior Monique Groux (Agawam, Mass.) in the 1-meter diving, and Frazier in the 50-yard butterfly.

Westfield State will host Western Connecticut State on Saturday, January 27th at 1:00 p.m. in their senior day meet. Prior to the event Pariseau, Danielle MacDonald (Fall River / Durfee), and Summer Walker (Ware / Tantasqua Regional) will be recognized for their accomplishments over the past four years.
