Swimming Places Nine on All-Academic Team

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State placed nine members of the women's swimming and diving team on the recently released 2017-18 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Spring All-Academic Team.

Freshman Jordan Baker (Minnechaug/Wilbraham, Mass.), junior Shannon Fitzsimmons (Andover, Mass.), junior diver Monique Groux (Agawam, Mass.), sophomore Kelsey Johnstone (Westfield/Southwick, Mass.), freshman Lila Kaplan (Franklin, Mass.), freshman Kait Kelly (Minnechaug/ Hampden, Mass.), senior Danielle MacDonald (Durfee/Fall River, Mass.), freshman Taylor Pierce (Floyd/Moriches, N.Y.), and sophomore Carly Thibodeau (Nipmuc/Mendon, Mass.) were all named to the team.

In order for a swimmer or diver to make the All-Academic Team, the student-athlete must have a semester GPA of 3.50 or higher.

The academic honors cap an outstanding year for the Owls in which they posted an 8-1 record in dual meets, placed second in the Little East Conference, and fourth at the NEISDA Championships - a meet in which the Owls set 13 school records.

Westfield will be back in the pool this fall under 37th-year head coach Dave Laing, who was named the Little East Coach of the Year in 2018 and won his 200th career dual meet.
