Owls Win 3 Events at Smith Relays

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University's swimming and diving team won three events at the Smith Relays hosted by Smith College on Saturday in Northampton, Mass.

Freshman Kait Kelly (Hampden, Mass. / Minnechaug Regional High School), sophomore Kelsey Johnstone (Southwick, Mass. / Westfield), sophomore Carly Thibodeau (Mendon, Mass. / Nipmuc Regional High School) and senior Tia Pariseau (Holden, Mass. / St. Peter Marian) placed first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:58.23.

Johnstone, junior Alex Frazier (Dracut, Mass.) and Kelly placed first in the 3x100-yard backstroke swimming in a time of 3:16.40.

Frazier, Pariseau and junior Shannon Fitzsimmons (Andover, Mass.) placed first in the 300-yard medley relay in a time of 3:26.54.

The Owls placed second in the 800-yard freestyle relay, the 3x100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard breaststroke relay.

No team scores were kept at the meet, which offers a unique set of relay events in contrast to the standard swim meet slate of events.

Westfield State will travel to North Dartmouth, Mass. Saturday, November 4th as they compete at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational beginning at 12:00 p.m.
