Owls Soar past UMass Dartmouth, 131-99

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University won ten of the 16 events as the Owls' women's swimming and diving team posted a 131-99 win over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Saturday in Westfield, Mass.

Westfield State is now 4-1 on the season while the Corsairs are now 1-3 overall.

Three Owls each won two events including junior Shannon Fitzsimmons (Andover, Mass.) who placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:24.38) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.93), freshman Kait Kelly (Hampden / Minnechaug Regional High School) who won the 50-yard backstroke (57.96) and the 100-yard freestyle (57.96) and senior Tia Pariseau (Holden / St. Peter Marian) who finished first in both the 50-yard breaststroke (31.85) and the 50-yard freestyle (26.18).

Among the other first place finishers for Westfield is freshman Jordan Baker (Wilbraham / Minnechaug Regional High School) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:12.67), junior Monique Groux (Agawam, Mass.) in the 1-meter diving (173.75) and junior Alex Frazier (Dracut, Mass.) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.03).

The Owls' medley relay team of Kelly, Pariseau, Carly Thibodeau (Mendon / Nipmuc Regional High School) and Baker placed first in the 200-yard medley relay a time of 2:00.07.

Westfield State University will host Plymouth State on December 9th at 1:00 p.m.
