Nine Owls Named to NEISDA Academic Team
WESTFIELD, Mass. - Nine athletes from Westfield State University's swimming and diving team were named to the 2017-2018 All New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Academic Team. Sophomore Kelsey Johnstone (Southwick, Mass. / Westfield) was also named to the NEISDA 2017-2018 All-Sportsmanship Team.

The nine Owls include freshman Jordan Baker (Wilbraham, Mass. / Minnechaug Regional High School), junior Shannon Fitzsimmons (Andover, Mass.), junior Monique Groux (Agawam, Mass.), Johnstone, freshman Lila Kaplan (Franklin, Mass.), freshman Kait Kelly (Hampden, Mass. / Minnechaug Regional High School), senior Danielle MacDonald (Fall River, Mass.), senior Tia Pariseau (Holden, Mass. / St. Peter Marian), and sophomore Carly Thibodeau (Mendon, Mass. / Nipmuc Regional High School).

In order for a swimmer or diver to make the NEISDA All-Academic Team, the student athlete must have a semester GPA of 3.50 or better.

One member from each of the 21 women's teams in New England are chosen for the All-Sportsmanship Team as each individual displays sportsmanship behaviors both in the pool and in the campus community.

Johnstone won two New England titles at the 2018 NEISDA Championship meet and helped lead the Owls to a perfect 4-0 record in the Little East Conference and an 8-1 overall record.
