WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University's sophomore Kelsey Johnstone (Southwick, Mass. / Westfield) and has been named the Little East Conference swimmer of the week while freshman teammate Kait Kelly (Hampden, Mass. / Minnechaug Regional High School) was named the LEC rookie of the week Monday.
Johnstone won three events to lead Westfield State to a 157-139 win over Mount Holyoke placing first in the 100 freestyle (57.26), 100 breaststroke (1:09.59) and 100 individual medley (1:03.08). She was victorious in the 100 freestyle (57.40) and 200 freestyle (2:06.90) in the Owls' dual meet win over Western New England, which was the 200th win of head coach Dave Laing's career.
LEC Rookie of the week Monday.
Kelly recorded first-place finishes in the 50 butterfly (29.06) and 100 backstroke (1:03.04) in the Owls dual meet win over Western New England to start the week. She went on to win the 50 backstroke (29.45) and 100 backstroke (1.02.49) events in Westfield State's dual meet win at Mount Holyoke.
The Owls are 2-1 on the season.
Westfield will next travel to Smith for a dual meet next Saturday, November 18.
