Women’s Soccer Meets #5 Messiah in NCAA Tournament

WESTFIELD, Mass. – After winning a third straight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference championship title, women's soccer is set to face Messiah University in an NCAA Tournament first-round matchup this upcoming weekend from Grantham, Pennsylvania.

Westfield and Messiah faced one another in a 2017 NCAA first-round matchup where the Falcons defeated the Owls 4-0.

The Owls earned an automatic qualifying bid into the NCAA Tournament after defeating Bridgewater State 3-2 on the road Sunday to capture the program's tenth MASCAC title. Westfield enters the tournament with an overall record of 13-6-1 and posted a 6-1 mark in the conference.

Messiah (17-2) also received an automatic qualifying bid into the tournament, defeating York College of Pennsylvania in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth division title game, 4-1 for their fifth consecutive MAC Commonwealth championship. The Falcons serve as the host site within the four-team region and are currently the fifth-ranked team in the nation according to the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 rankings.

Williams College and Endicott College are the other two teams within the pod. Williams (9-3-5) received an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament after falling in penalty kicks to Bowdoin in the NESCAC Semifinals. The Ephs came in at the number 13 in the latest United Soccer Coaches rankings. Endicott defeated Western New England, 1-0, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship game to advance into the tournament.
