WESTFIELD, Mass. -  Westfield State women's soccer took down two of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's weekly awards, as junior back Jaida Cochran (Middleboro, Mass.) was named the league's defensive player of the week, and first-year forward Tia Tollis (East Longmeadow, Mass.)  was chosen as the rookie of the week for the week ending Oct. 15.

Cochran helped limit the Owls' opponents to just one goal in two games, and added the game-winning goal early in a 2-0 win over Fitchburg State.  She also notched an assist as the Owls powered to a 10-1 non-conference win on the road at Eastern Nazarene earlier in the week.

Cochran ranks fourth on the Owls in points this season with three goals and three assists.

Tollis takes home rookie-of-the-week honors in the league for the third time this season.

She had a dominating performance in the Owls win at Eastern Nazarene, tallying the Owls first goal of the day, and twice in the first 14 minutes as Westfield sprinted to a 4-0 lead, and added an assist later in the evening to finish with two goals and an assist.

Tollis ranks third on the team in scoring with six goals and three assists for 15 points.

Westfield State is currently 9-5 overall and sits atop the conference standings with a perfect 5-0 league record.  The Owls will be back in action on Wednesday with a non-conference game at 7:00 p.m. at UMass-Boston, and then travel to Bridgewater on Saturday for a 12 noon conference start.
