Owls Rack up Season-High Ten Goals, Trounce Lions

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State women's soccer recorded a season-high ten goals with seven different players finding the back of the net in the Owls 10-1 victory over Eastern Nazarene College in a non-conference game on Wednesday night from Quincy, Mass.

Westfield was one goal shy of tying the single-game goal record of 11 which was set 43 years ago against Babson College.

The Owls have now won five of their last six games, improving to 8-5 on the season. The Lions fall to 1-8-3 overall.

Westfield jumped all over Eastern Nazarene in the first half, scoring seven times in the opening 45 minutes of the contest. First-years' Tia Tollis (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Kiana Muratsuka (Mililani, Hawaii) scored minutes apart in the seventh and eighth minutes to give the Owls an early 2-0 lead.

The scoring flurry continued in the 14th minute with Delaney Parker (Orange, Mass.) and Tollis connecting on goals in a span of 14 seconds to double the Westfield lead. Parker netted her tenth goal of the season and second of the match later in the half as the Owls tallied five goals in the first 17 minutes of game action.

Kiana Patel (Nairobi, Kenya) potted her second goal of the season, then Tori Dodge (North Cannon, Conn.) recorded her first goal of the season with 55 seconds remaining in the first half to give Westfield a lopsided 7-0 lead at the break.

Three additional second half goals were scored by Muratsuka, Morgan Berthiaume (Webster, Mass.) and Bella Parrotte (East Greenbush, N.Y.). The Lions cracked the scoreboard in the 86th minute with Rylan Tinjum (Castle Rock, Colo.) scoring her first goal of the season.

Parker supplied a team-high six points (two goals and two assists) with Tollis racking up five points (two goals and an assist). Parker's six points moves her six points behind setting the all-time school record which is currently held by Jenn Rennich '22 with 145 points.

Kiki McNary (Dummerston, Vt.) added two assists while Jaida Cochran (Middleboro, Mass.), Willow Romo (East Longmeadow, Mass.), and Taylor Knapp (Schenevus, N.Y.) contributed an assist each. Knapp's helper was her first collegiate point.

Kayla Santucci (Agawam, Mass.) and Sarah Fuller (Weymouth, Mass.) split time in net with Santucci picking up her second win of the campaign. Both goalies generated one save. The Owls outshot the Lions 27-6, including a 20-2 advantage in the first half.

Westfield State resumes conference play as the Owls travel to Fitchburg State on Friday at 6:30 P.M. as the two teams will meet for the first time since last year's MASCAC Championship game.
