Tollis Tallies Twice, Owls Dominate MCLA 3-0

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State first-year midfielder Tia Tollis (East Longmeadow, Mass.) scored a pair of goals as the Owls dominated MCLA 3-0 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday evening as part of Family and Champions Weekend from Alumni Field in Westfield, Mass.

The Owls have now won 21 straight conference games dating back to the 2021 season and improve to 6-4 on the season while owning a 3-0 MASCAC record. MCLA drops to 2-4-2 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Tollis initiated the scoring inside the 13th minute, feeding a pass to Delaney Parker (Orange, Mass.) at the top of the box who then one-touched the ball back to Tollis, ripping a shot towards the left upper-90 for a 1-0 Owls lead.

The Owls remained on the hunt throughout the duration of the first half, piling up a total of 25 shots, nine of which made their way on net. Trailblazers keeper Eva Eberwein (Dalton, Mass.) stood tall in net, recording eight first-half saves to keep the match at 1-0 into halftime.

Out of the halftime break, Parker doubled the Owls lead just five minutes into the period, racing past a slew of MCLA defenders before positioning a shot low and away from Eberwein for her sixth goal of the season, making it a 2-0 Westfield advantage.

The Tollis-Parker connection struck once again at the 61st minute off a corner kick from Parker which angled into the middle of the box where Tollis was able to head a shot over the outstretched arms of Eberwein for her fourth goal of the season, capping off the scoring on the night.

Tollis nearly registered a hattrick in the waning stages of the match, booting a shot towards the net that was corralled by Eberwein.

Westfield maintained a healthy share of the possession time in the game, racking up a total of 42 shots to the Trailblazers one attempt which was a shot from Anna Lewis (North Monmouth, Maine) that was stopped by Kayla Santucci (Agawam, Mass.).

Julia Robak (Chicopee, Mass.) picked up her fourth win of the season in six games started. Eberwein racked up 14 saves for the Trailblazers.

Westfield State carries a three-game winning streak into their next contest as the Owls host Western New England University in a non-conference game on Wednesday at 7:00 P.M. from Alumni Field. MCLA remains on the road for their next match, travelling to SUNY-Delhi on Tuesday for a 6:00 P.M. game.
