WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior Erin White (Plympton, Mass.) scored the game-tying goal early in the second half, but Southern Maine tallied the next three goals to defeat the Owls 5-2 on Wednesday night from Hannaford Field in Gorham, Maine.

The Owls fall to 0-2 on the season while the Huskies improve to 3-0 on the year.

Trailing 2-0 entering the second half, junior Delaney Parker (Orange, Mass.) netted her first goal of the season 3:12 into the period, weaving through a trio of defenders before firing a shot to the far post to cut the deficit in half.

At the 56th minute, Parker entered the attacking zone and sent a pass to the corner where Jaida Cochran (Middleboro, Mass.) knocked the ball off a defender, causing a corner kick. On the kick, White launched a shot into the box that curved towards the near-side post, sailing just over the outstretched arms of Huskies' goalkeeper Breanna Atwood (Franklin, Mass.) and into the net to tie the game.

Southern Maine quickly responded a minute and 18 seconds later with Julia McKenna (Windham, Maine) winning a ball in the midfield, then depositing a shot inside the far post to regain the lead.

Julia Kratzer (Gorham, Maine) added a goal to double the Huskies lead, then Eliza Roy (Camden, Maine) tacked on the final tally of the night in the 84th minute.

Owls goalkeeper Kayla Santucci (Agawam, Mass.) registered 11 saves with Atwood supplying six saves for the Huskies.

Kiki Huntress (Kittery Point, Maine) and Bridgette Toland (Jamestown, R.I.) converted the first two goals of the game as the Huskies outshot the Owls 23-13.

Westfield State will remain on the road for their next three games beginning with two matches at the Cortland State Tournament which begins on Friday with the Owls facing off against Arcadia at 6:00 P.M.
