A penalty kick late in the first half proved to be enough for Keene State, as Keene held off the Westfield State women's soccer team, 2-1 on Thursday night in Keene, N.H.
Westfield grabbed a 1-0 lead on Emily Landry's goal in the 21st minute, but Keene answered with a goal of their own less than a minute later.
Keene took a 2-1 lead afer being awarded a penalty kick in the 39th minute, after a foul at the left edge of the penalty area. Alex Kennedy converted the free kick for Keene.
Westfield peppered Keene with shots, holding a 16-5 edge in the game, but could not get a tying goal.
The Owls slip to 2-3-1 on the season. Keene is now 1-3.
Westfield will host Framingham State on Saturday in the conference opener for both teams.
