Three Owls Earn MASCAC Weekly Awards

Three Westfield State athletes were recognized with Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly honors, as women' soccer players Jenn Rennich (Bedford, Mass.) and Lauryn Davis (Templeton, Mass.) and volleyball athlete Lizzie Taylor (Medfield, Mass.) were cited for their perfomances this past week.

Forward Rennich was named the leagues women's soccer player of the week, while goalkeeper Davis was chosen as the circuit's rookie of the week. Rennich racked up three assists in a 7-0 win over Elms, then dished out another assist and scored a goal to fuel a 3-0 win at Fitchburg State.  For the season she ranks third on the Owls with 10 points on two goals and a team-best six assists.

Davis recorded shoutouts in net in both games.  She needed just one save in blanking the Elms, before a four-save performance in the win over Fitchburg.  She has been the Owls' primary netminder all season log and has a 1.65 GAA and a .750 save percentage in eight starts.

Westfield State women's soccer is 5-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the MASCAC.  The Owls will play at Plymouth State on Tuesday - the fifth different state in which they will have played a road contest this season - with matches in Virginia, New York, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts and now New Hampshire so far this fall.

Taylor was named the loop's women's volleyball player of the week, as she recorded her 2000th career dg for the Owls this past weekend.  The Owls' all time leader in the category, the senior libero averaged better than 18 digs per match in a three match week for the Owls. She leads Westfield with 342 digs this season and has served up a team-best 42 aces. Taylor ranked sixth in the nation in career digs among active NCAA Division III players.

Owls volleyball is 9-8 overall this season and 4-0 in MASCAC play.  The Owls will host their senior night on Tuesday, when Westfield Amherst in a 6:00 start.
