Preseason Poll Picks Owls to Win MASCAC

WESTFIELD, Mass.  – Westfield State's women's soccer team has been picked to top the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference in the circuit's pre-season coaches' poll which was released earlier today.

The Owls won the 2017 MASCAC tournament title with a 1-0 win over top seed Worcester State, and the Owls advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time under the guidance of head coach Todd Ditmar.  The Owls finished with an 11-6-3 overall mark and a 6-1 record in conference play.

Westfield received 45 points and three first place votes in the poll, narrowly topping Bridgewater and Worcester, which tied for second with 42 points each.   Bridgewater also received three first-place votes while Worcester picked up two first place votes.

The Owls' preseason is underway at the renovated Alumni Field.  Westfield will kick off the 2018 season on August 31st against Drew (N.J.) University at the Cyclone Kickoff Classic hosted by Centenary College in Hackettstown, N.J.
