Owls Plunder Buccaneers, 16-2

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State University women's lacrosse got four goals each from Elizabeth Navoni and Maddie Bartkus as the Owls scuttled Mass Maritime by a 16-2 score in a MASCAC game on Saturday evening at Alumni Field.

Navoni sanwiched a pair of goals around a Bartkus tally in the opening seven minutes to stake the Owls to a 3-0 lead.   Westfield started the game with a 6-0 run before the Buccaneers got on the board when Alyssa Bluementhal drove to the goal with 9:51 left in the half.   

The Owls led 7-1 at the half.

It was more of the same in the second half, as Bartkus and Navoni contrinbuted the first to markers as the Owls got to running time with an 11-1 lead on Alexa Tonelli's goal with 20:53 left in regulation.

The Owls recorded 15 assists on 16 goals in the game, led by four from midfielder Sydney Lambert.   Navoni is on a hot streak with 14 goals in her last four games, and now has 75 for her career.

Casey Sullivan added a late goal off a feed from Blumenthal to account for the Buccaneers' scoring.

Westfield State's Maria Woodall picked up the win in goal for the Owls.

Westfield improves to 2-1 in the MASCAC and 5-8 overall, while the Bucs fall to 7-5, and 1-2 in the conference.
