Owls Take 11th at George Phinney Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State women's golf placed 11th at the George Phinney Golf Classic hosted by Middlebury (Vt.) College at the Ralph Myhre Course on the Middlebury campus on September 30 and October 1.

Junior Kyla Murphy led Westfield's performance, finishing in 44th place as an individual with a two-day total of 94-93-187. Classmate Bailey Loughlin placed 53rd with a two day score of 105-95-200.

Amherst College won the 12-team tournament with a two-day team score of 638, with Middlebury's Katherine Fortin taking the individual title with a score of 81-75-156 over her par-72, 6,000-yard home course. Middlebury is just one of a handful of Division III colleges in New England that can boast of its own on-campus course.

Westfield finished with a two day total of 818, 26 strokes ahead of Husson (Me.) College and 19 strokes behind Johnson and Wales, both rivals in the new Empire 8 women's golf league.

The Owls will be back in action at the Williams Invitational tournament on Saturday Oct. 7 and Sunday Oct. 8 at the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, Mass.
