Women's Golf Earns E8 All-Academic Status

WESTFIELD, Mass. -Westfield State University women's golfers Sabrina Gillis (East Falmouth/Falmouth, Mass.) and Tia Pariseau (St. Peter Marian/Holden, Mass.) have been recognized by the Empire 8 Athletic Conference in its Fall 2017 President's List for their academic accomplishments.

Additionally, Westfield State was acknowledged as an Empire 8 All-Academic Team for registering a team grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the fall semester.

Individual recipients must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher while participating in a conference-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. The conference states, "Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8."

Westfield State University became an affiliate member of the Empire 8 Athletic Conference for women's golf in May 2017. Other members include The College at Brockport, Buffalo State College, Morrisville State, Washington & Jefferson College, SUNY Cortland, SUNY Canton, SUNY Oswego, SUNY Potsdam, Husson University, Keuka College, Johnson & Wales University, Rhode Island College, and Suffolk University.

More than 796 student-athletes from the league's nine full-time members and 14 affiliate institutions were recognized for their contributions on the field and their excellence in the classroom this semester.

The 126 teams which earned All-Academic stats mark the highest number of teams to earn the Academic honor in one semester, with the previous mark of 123 teams to achieve the 3.2 standard was sent in the spring of 2017.

The nine full-time conference members sponsored a total of 3,907 student-athletes who combined across the Empire 8 for a fall semester grade-point average of 3.22.
