Title: Assistant Coach

Jack Zabek begins his eleventh season as an assistant coach on the Westfield State bench in 2018-19.

Zabek enjoyed a long and successful high school teaching and coaching career, primarily at Frontier Regional High School in Deerfield, Mass.

He coached the 1986-87 boys basketball team to a perfect 25-0 record and a state championship.  In 1999-2000 he led the Frontier girls to a Western Mass title, and in 2006 was the coach of the year while coaching the Frontier Girls squad.

Prior to Frontier Regional, Zabek coached the Northfield (VT) High School boys basketball team to the state semifinals and was named coach of the year.

In total in 32 years of high school basketball coaching coaching his teams won a total of 435 games.

In 2006 he was presented with the Harold M. “Kid” Gore award, which has been presented since 1939 to an individual who has generously contributed to Western Massachusetts basketball, and in 2007 was honored with the Tom Cove Award, which was presented by the Franklin-Hampshire County Basketball Officials for Outstanding contributions to the sport of basketball.

In 2015, he was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and coach.
