Westfield State University's women's basketball team recently received their team awards as NCAA statistical leaders.
The Owls received four plaques from the NCAA, for leading the nation in Division III in points per game (87.9), three-pointers made per game (11.7), steals per game (19.6) and turnover margin (+16.29).
Westfield also led the nation (450 total schools) in three point field goals attempted (1,075), total steals (548) and turnovers forced per game (33.21), but the NCAA only issues the plaques in a limited number of categories while reporting leaders in 34 statistical categories weekly and annually.
Under coach Andrea Bertini's 'System' style of play, the Owls have perennially been among the national leaders in a number of categories, receiving national-leader awards in each of the last four seasons.
The Owls posted an 18-10 record in 2018-19 and won the MASCAC Conference tournament for the fourth straight year, and advanced to the NCAA's for the fourth year in a row and the fifth time in Bertini's tenure.
The Owls return senior point guards Alyssa Camara, Chelsea Moussette and and junior forward Taina Slaughter (all pictured) along with all conference foward Melissa Gray for the 2019-20 season.
