Owls Draw Mount St. Mary (N.Y.) In NCAA Tournament

WESTFIELD, Mass.  –  The Westfield State women's basketball team will play at Mount St. Mary College (NY)  in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Division III women's basketball national championship tournament at Gettysburg, Pa.

The pairings were announced on a live webstream show at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon.

The Owls (18-9) are making their seventh NCAA tournament appearance overall, and their fourth in the last four years.  Westfield received an automatic bid to the tournament as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament champions.

The Mount St. Mary Knights are 22-5 and received an at-large bid to the tournament.

Westfield's regional will be hosted by Gettysburg College (22-5) which will face Christopher Newport (Va.) in the opening round on Friday.   The winner of the Owls-Knights game would face the Gettysburg-Christopher Newport winner on Saturday.

Fourteenth-year head coach Andrea Bertini has guided the Owls to five of those tournament bids.

Last year, Westfield fell to Tufts in the opening round of the tournament.
