WESTFIELD, Mass.  –    Bridgewater State's Nicole Bostick (Coyle and Cassidy/Taunton, Mass.) hit a three pointer with 13 seconds left in the game to turn a 1-point deficit into a 2-point lead as the Bears hung on to beat Westfield State, 69-65 in a MASCAC women's basketball game at the Woodward Center on Saturday afternoon.

Bostick's transition three gave the Bears a 67-65 lead.  After the Owls Kierra McCarthy (Ludlow, Mass.) a pair of free throws with five seconds left, Bridgewater's Olivia DelGrosso (Ledyard, Conn.) connected on a pair of free throws with five seconds left that gave the Bears the four point victory.

Bridgewater improves to 10-11 and 5-3 in the MASCAC, while Westfield falls to 12-9 and 6-2 in the league.  The loss snaps a streak of 26-consecuitive home wins against league opponents for the Owls.

Bridgewater kept Westfield well under its season scoring average.  Westfield shot just 25 percent from the floor in the game and just 9-47 (19 percent) on three point tries.

Del Grosso led the Bears with 16 points, while Danielle Arcidiacono (Bellingham, Mass.) provided a strong effort off the bench with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Westfield was led by 15 points from Melissa Gray (Peabody), the only Owl to score in double figures on the day.  Lucy Barrett (Mt. Greylock/Williamstown, Mass.) added nine and McCarthy eight for Westfield.

Westfield trailed the Bears, 32-30 at the half.  The Owls threatened to get away from Bridgewater early in the fourth quarter, leading by as many as eight points, 56-48 after a Chelsea Moussette (Hampshire/Southampton, Mass.) layup with 8:17 to play.

Bridgewater answered with a 12-4 run over the next 5:12, a spurt that was capped by Arcidiacono feeding Kailyn Agular (Bishop Stang/Acushnet, Mass.)  for a layup that trimmed the Owls lead to 61-60.

Westfield State will be back in action on Wednesday evening, hosting Framingham State in a game that will have a significant impact on a tightening race for the MASCAC regular-season title.

Bridgewater will travel to Salem State on Wednesday.
