Westfield State senior guard Lucy Barrett (Mt. Greylock/Williamstown, Mass.) added New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) weekly honor roll honors to her resume after picking up the MASCAC player of the week award yesterday.

Barrett averaged 27.5 points, six rebounds, 4.5 steals, and shot 51.4% (19-37) from the floor in a 2-0 week for the Owls. She scored a game-high 31 points on 9-18 shooting from the floor and a perfect 10-10 at the line to propel the Owls past #25 Middlebury, handing the Pathers their first loss of the season. Barrett connected on 10-19 shots from the floor and 3-7 from downtown while scoring a game-high 24 points against Bridgewater State, adding five steals and four rebounds in the 77-68 win over the Bears.

Curry's College's Emily Irwin was named as the NEWBA player of the week. She averaged 23.3 points, 12.7 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 4.3 steals per game in three games last week.

The New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) provides support for coaches from the New England Region. Membership in NEWBA is open to all Division III head coaches from the region.

Westfield State women's basketball currently leads the MASCAC with a 2-0 record in league play.  The Owls lead the country in scoring, steals per game, three pointers made per game, turnovers forced per game and turnover margin.

The women's basketball team steps on the court again when they tip off against MASCAC rival Framingham State beginning at 8:00 p.m. in Framingham.
